magnetic drum separator
A magnetic drum separator is a device that uses magnetic properties to separate target minerals from other elements in minerals. Such as the separation of magnetite from quartz, wolframite and magnetite from cassiterite. It is worth mentioning that FMS has the ability to manufacture drum separators in all three scales: laboratory, pilot and industrial.
Magnetic drum separators
A magnetic drum separator is a device that uses magnetic properties to separate target minerals from other elements in minerals. such as separations of magnetite from quartz, wolframite and magnetite from cassiterite.
Application of drum separators in different industries
- Steel processing industries
Production of iron concentrate through the separation of magnetite and hematite from other elements - Aluminum processing industries
Removal of iron from bauxite soil in alumina production process - Titanium processing industries
Separation of iron in cases where the target element is titanium - Refractory earth industries
Removing iron (up to 7%) from raw materials to produce refractory materials that contain significant amounts of iron. - Waste recycling industries
Separation of metal waste from urban waste to recycle valuable elements - Coal processing industries
Removal of ferrous materials from the coal concentration process
Magnetic drum separators can be classified based on gradient, field intensity, process phase and process type.
Field intensity
This device is designed and manufactured depending on the type of separation process in different field intensities, which is widely used in various industries, especially in mining industries. This company has the ability to produce drum separators of 500-9000 intensity in dry and wet types.
Drum separators in wet process
A special state of paramagnetic materials is called ferromagnetic, which have high intensity magnetic property and if removed from the field, some magnetism remains in it.
Drum separators with low field intensity (Low Intensity):
Separators in which the intensity of the magnetic field is less than 2 kilogauss. This type is used to separate ferromagnetic materials such as magnetite.
Drum separators with medium field intensity (Medium Intensity):
Separators that have a magnetic field intensity of 2 to 5 kg and are used to separate materials with medium magnetic susceptibility.
Drum separators with high field intensity (High Intensity):
Separators whose field intensity is more than 5 kilogauss. These types of separators are used to separate paramagnetic materials such as manganese and hematite.
The role of drum separators in mineral concentration
In mineral processing plants, using magnetic properties, materials after the crushing and grinding process are used to increase the grade and produce concentrate from drum separators, which are divided into dry and wet methods.
This equipment can be used in pre-processing (cobber), cleaner and scavenger stages depending on the grade and recovery of the required product and the concentration process.
Process phase
Drum separators in dry process
Dry type low intensity drum separators are used to separate coarse particles with strong magnetic property (ferromagnetism).
Drum separators of medium intensity of dry type are used to separate coarse particles with medium magnetic property.
Dry high intensity drum separators are used to separate coarse particles with low magnetic property (paramagnetism).
Drum separators in wet process
Drum separators with lower field intensity are used to separate materials with strong magnetic property (ferromagnetism) and clean heavy magnetic mediums. In this separator, the non-magnetic force is usually water flow.
Drum separators of medium intensity are used for particles with medium magnetic properties.
Drum separators are more high-intensity, for arranging iron oxide ores (mainly including hematite), which can replace the flotation process. One of the wide applications of this method is reducing sulfur (in the form of pyrite) in coal.
Magnetic drum separator are mainly used for separation and cobber (pre-processing), rougher, beneficiation and dewatering stages. Magnetic drum separators with different tanks including Concurrent, Counter Rotation and Counter Current are designed for different stages in single and multi-stage. The drum design of magnetic separators depends on the size of the particles, the capacity and recovery, the percentage of concentrate and the design of the production line.
Gradient
The design of the magnet arrangement is one of the most important things in the drum of magnetic separators. FMS basically provides two different sets, High Capacity (HC) and High Gradient (HG). The main differences between these two designs are the magnet pole, pole distance, number of poles and type of magnet block. The high capacity assembly has a higher degree of magnetic flux but due to its lower field gradient and height, its force near the shell is actually less magnetically attractive compared to the high gradient type.
The high-gradient version is therefore capable of recovering fine or less magnetic material, but because its magnetic strength drops off faster with greater distance from the magnet, its capacity is reduced. The LIMS magnetic system has magnet placement angle of 110 degrees and is rated at 500 to 1200 intensity on the shell surface, while the MIMS magnetic system has 110 to 120 degrees angle with a rating of 1500 to 5000 intensity.
Process type
Roll separators can be used for two different purposes, concentration and purification, according to the type of process required in different industries.
Concentration: beneficiation of iron ore as well as steel and foundry industries
Purification: removal of iron in bauxite processing, in the recycling industry, ceramics, plaster, lime, etc. The high gradient version has the ability to recover small or less magnetic materials, but because its magnetic force is at a greater distance It falls faster than the magnet, its capacity decreases. The LIMS magnetic system has magnet placement angle of 110 degrees and is rated at 500 to 1200 intensity on the shell surface, while the MIMS magnetic system has 110 to 120 degrees angle with a rating of 1500 to 5000 intensity.
It should be mentioned that FMS has the ability to manufacture drum separators in all three scales: laboratory, pilot and industrial.
